I got lucky today. I
got Lucknow today, direct from the brewery in New Hampshire. A friend of mine
visited there on his vacation and brought me back some of their beer and a
beautiful Lucknow glass. I have had the beers before, but they are hard to find
even here in New England. The small brewery has trouble keeping up with demand
for it's brews.
Castle Springs Brewing Company is located in Moultonborough, New Hampshire. The
beer is brewed with pure spring water from their mountain estate, which they
also bottle and sell. The brewery is part of a resort, and you can stay in the
mountains, enjoying fine dining and fresh-brewed beer.
Lucknow IPA is deep orange in color with a thick, creamy-rocky head that follows
the brew all the way down the glass to produce an impressive Brussels lace. The
nose is all hops, the palate rich and firm bodied malt that quickly yields to a
massive hop bitterness. It lingers on your tongue and won't let go, you have to
fight to get your taste buds back. This is numbing bitterness we're talking
here. Now this is IPA folks.
I do love hoppy beers like this with spicy foods, and I just happened to have
made a very spicy chili tonight in my crockpot. A Perfect match for this
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
